Network Linda

Scientific Computing Associates, Inc.

Network Linda allows users to combine the general-purpose UNIXworkstations they already own into the computational equivalent of apowerful parallel processor, putting idle cycles to work on the mostimportant problems. Network Linda provides a simple, portable, and highlyefficient environment for parallel programming. A Linda dialect iscreated by inserting six simple operations into an existing programminglanguage such as C. These operations manipulate a logically-sharedcontent-addressable object memory. Since each Linda dialect is based on astandard programming language, it provides convenient access toparallelism within a familiar software development environment.Scientific's Linda also enhances that environment with an interactivedebugging and graphical analysis tool called Tuplescope (requires X11R4).Scientific offers the Original Linda System for most shared- anddistributed-memory multiprocessors, so programs can run in parallel onmany different platforms and across networks. Existing Linda codesdeveloped on these other platforms can be moved to the network and viceversa.
